Got a face full of acne? You’re not alone! There were many points in my life where I had painful, red & swollen acne on my cheeks and forehead. Of course this was during the time when I hadn’t yet thrown out refined white sugar and processed foods – even though I was already getting into nutritious face masks and natural beauty remedies.

This is why I firmly believe that to get rid of any sort of acne or skin issues, changing your dietary habits is a key element. But that’s a post for another day!

One particular night I felt really frustrated looking at the red zits, which were fixed deep inside my cheeks. And they were so painful that I couldn’t even sleep on my sides!

Now, I already knew avocado worked wonders for dry skin but I didn’t fathom the idea of using avocado for acne until I tried it out. I ran to the kitchen, grabbed a nicely ripened avocado and quickly blended up a simple avocado face mask for acne!

Let me tell you, slathering the silky buttery avocado on my cheeks felt extremely soothing and really cold and nice. After some time, the avocado started tingling lightly and boy did I know one thing for sure – it was working! Avocado is amazingly silky when you apply it topically and it feels really wonderful on inflamed skin. Let’s check out some nutrients in avocado that are effective for healing acne and skin in general:

  • Healthy unsaturated fat– Avocado has healthy fat in it, which lubricates dry and flaky skin coupled with acne.
  • Vitamin E– Avocado contains Vitamin E, which is popularly known as the Skin Vitamin and the ‘Skin Protector’. Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant which bolsters the skin’s UV defense and slows down formation of wrinkles and fine lines. This skin vitamin also fights free radicals that block pores and contribute to acne!
  • Linoleic Acid– This is an omega 6 fatty acid that’s important for clear skin. Many acne sufferers actually have low levels of linoleic acid within their skin. Like most healthy fat, linoleic acid helps keep skin hydrated and moisturized which is important if you have acne due to lack of oils deep in your skin. Linoleic acid is also anti-inflammatory which means it’ll help calm down red aggravated acne.
  • Anti-oxidants and Phytochemicals– Avocado contains a whole host of powerful skin saving anti-oxidants such as niacin, riboflavin, biotin, thiamine acid and more. Anti-oxidants such as b-vitamins, vitamin A, C and biotin slow down the aging process of skin, fight acne causing bacteria, brighten dull skin and combat inflammatory acne.

Anti-bacterial Avocado Face Mask for Acne

This anti-bacterial avocado face mask for acne will soothe inflammation, destroy free radicals and acne causing bacteria and soften hard painful acne, helping the pimple pop naturally. It contains the golden miracle, honey, which has been revered since ancient times for its skin healing properties. Honey is a natural humectant and contains anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties that kill acne germs. It also has anti-inflammatory compounds that make it great in treating acne inflammation.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon organic liquid honey
  • 1/ 4 a small avocado

Directions

1. Wash your avocado, cut in half and remove the seed.
2. Scrape the meat out and blend using a high-speed blender into a lump free paste in a small bowl.
3. Drop in 1 tablespoon of raw honey and stir until you get an even consistency.
4. Make sure your face is clean before slathering the face mask onto your face. Avoid the areas around your eyes and mouth. Wait for 15 minutes for the mask to do its work. When the time is up, loosen the mask with warm water first then rinse off with cold water. Pat dry. Use a pea-sized amount of shea butter to moisturize if your skin feels a little stiff or dry.

Quick Tips

1. If your face mask turns out drippy, wear an old T-shirt so that you don’t mess up your clothes.
2. Do facial steaming before hand to soften your acne and open up pores. This way the avocado face mask will penetrate deep into your pores.
3. Use organic honey for best results.
4. Your avocado should be ripe if not overripe for easier mashing and best results.
5. Leave on the face mask for as long as it takes to dry up completely.
6. If you get excess face mask mixture, slather it on your body before a shower for silky smooth skin. If you want to keep it for later, store it in your freezer and use it within 3 days. Throw it out immediately if it starts smelling gross.
