Today we will talk about curing sinus cold with essential oils.
Knowing how to cure a sinus cold is kind of like having the keys to the kingdom, isn’t it? Some people get that cough that just won’t quit at the end of a cold, and some people, like me, seem to get the never ending stuffy nose.

Even if I just have a little nothing of a cold with other symptoms that go away quickly, my sensitive sinuses can go all wacko and it can result in me not being able to smell or taste a single thing for days! I hate that!
For a full-fledged cold, I have to admit that I do love my Advil Cold and Sinus, or something similar, to keep me moving, but honestly sometimes the natural stuff really just works better. My homemade cough syrupis one example and this essential oil trick is another!

I’m really just starting to learn about essential oils and all the things that they can be used for. I have a few favorites that I always keep on hand, but I usually just use them because I like the nice clean scent that a lot of them have. I’m slowly learning more practical uses for them though and this one is my favorite so far!
How to Cure a Sinus Cold With Essential Oils
First blow your nose as best as you can, then fill up your bathroom sink with hot, steamy water.
Next, put about 8 drops of rosemary oil in the water.

Then you just stand over the sink and breathe in that steam! Breathe as much in through your nose as you can, but if you’re so plugged up that you can’t do that, just breathe it in through your mouth. Just getting it into your respiratory system any way you can really helps! You only need to stand over the sink for a few minutes to get the effects, and then you can go on with your day.
I like to do this about once an hour for four hours or so when I start to notice that this stuffy nose thing just isn’t going away. By the end of the four hours, I start to notice that I can suddenly smell things again! That’s just the most miraculous feeling if you ask me. My name’s Courtenay. I love smells.
I usually do this whole “breathing in the steam” routine about once a day for the next few days just as insurance against my stuffiness. For a really good extra kick, I like to mix a drop of rosemary oil with a little bit of coconut oil in my hand and apply that directly to my sinus areas, like on top of my nose, under my nose, and on my forehead.

To make it really easy and to make it practical for when you’re out and about, you can use one of these roller ball bottles with about a teaspoon of a plain oil like olive oil or fractionated coconut oil (basically liquified coconut oil) and 3 drops of rosemary essential oil and apply that instead. Make sure you rub it in a bit after you roll it on to your face though or you might have drips, which would look weird. 🙂
Hooray for Essential Oils!
It’s really quite amazing how well this works. Like, it’s silly. If you take a pill, usually you’ll start to feel the effects in 20-30 minutes, but with the rosemary oil, it’s more like 5. I like this even more than some of the more popular oils used for colds and congestion because I find it much milder and it doesn’t sting my eyes if I put the oil mixed with rosemary oil right on my face. And it’s usually one of the more inexpensive essential oils, which is always nice! 🙂
